Hyperliquid Perps in Hype: Margin, Funding and Orders

By Hype Team · Updated · 2 min read

Hype includes Hyperliquid perpetual-futures trading alongside its spot experience. Perps let you take exposure through a derivatives position rather than buying and holding the underlying spot token.

Spot trading versus perpetual futures

A spot purchase gives you the traded token. A perpetual position creates exposure to price changes under the market’s margin and liquidation rules. Long and short positions behave differently, and leverage increases sensitivity to price moves.

Perps are not a shortcut to owning a memecoin unavailable through spot trading. Check the actual supported market list; a token appearing in discovery does not imply a corresponding perpetual contract exists.

Understand the position before opening it

Review collateral, position size, leverage, entry details, and the displayed liquidation information. Funding payments can affect the cost of holding a position, even when the market price stays close to your entry.

Hype’s perps surfaces connect trading and position management in the app. This convenience does not remove the need to understand initial margin, maintenance margin, funding, and how an adverse move affects the balance.

Plan the exit and monitor margin

Use supported take-profit and stop-loss controls when they fit your plan, and review whether the exit orders remain active. A stop-loss is not a guaranteed maximum loss under every market condition.

Monitor the position and available margin. Liquidation can close a leveraged position when margin requirements are no longer met. Read the product disclosures and Hype’s perps explainers before using live funds.

Step-by-step workflow

  1. Open Hype’s perps surface and select an available market.
  2. Review collateral, direction, size, leverage, and funding.
  3. Inspect liquidation information and any available exit controls.
  4. Confirm and monitor the position and margin.

Frequently asked questions

Do perps mean I own the underlying token?

No. A perpetual position is derivatives exposure, unlike a spot token purchase.

Can a leveraged position be liquidated?

Yes. A position can be liquidated when its margin no longer meets the required level.
